The Melbourne Declaration - calling for urgent action on HIV

The Melbourne Declaration outlines what Australia must do to improve our current HIV testing and treatment response.

The document has been developed by all the national peak HIV organisations and represents our collective position on the priority actions Australia needs to take in order to meet the targets set by the 2011 United National Political Declaration on HIV.

NAPWHA and AFAOAustralian Federation of AIDS Organisations. AFAO is the peak non-government organisation representing Australia's community-based response to HIV/AIDS. AFAO's work includes education, policy, advocacy and international projects. Executive Directors have already met with Minister of Health, the Hon Tanya Plibersek, to urge adoption of the actions contained in the Declaration.

The Australasian HIV/AIDS Conference commences in Melbourne on Wednesday 17 October and at the opening, the Victorian Health Minister, the Hon David Davis will be presented with a copy of the Declaration.

We want to work collectively with all arms of government to maximise the potential of Australia to achieve the UN goals.
