People with HIV wishing to travel to the US for up to 30 days are now permitted to do so providing they apply for a visa from their local US consulate. This new rule will be granted if you meet all the conditions for the granting of a US visa. The visa will not mention HIV.

If people are deemed ineligible for this visa they can apply for a special waiver but this process can be lengthy. The new visa rule is an interim measure while US authorities remove HIV from the list of “communicable diseases of public health significance,” a process which has been set in train after President Bush signed the PEPFAR bill recently.
