AFAO welcomes the appointment of new AusAID ambassador for HIV, malaria and TB

The Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations has welcomed the appointment of a new Australian ambassador for HIV, malaria and tuberculosis.

The Foreign Minister, Bob Carr, has announced that James Gilling will succeed Murray Proctor in the role.

Mr Gilling is currently First Assistant Director General, Policy and Sector Division, AusAIDAustralian Agency for International Development. Australian Government agency responsible for managing the Australian Government's official overseas aid program. read more »

Fiji outlaws HIV discrimination

Fiji has made it unlawful to discriminate against people with HIV.

The HIV/AIDS Decree 2011 was adopted by the government this month, winning praise locally and internationally.

Pacific Islands AIDS Foundation legal trainer and policy analyst, Laitia Tamata, says the decree represents years of hard work by many people to give PLHIVPerson (or people) Living with HIV. This term is now preferred over the older PLWHAPerson (or People) Living with HIV/AIDS.. a legal avenue to challenge discrimination. read more »

Inaugural World AIDS Day Dinner benefit to be held in Sydney, December 1 2010

On December 1, 2010 the first World AIDS Day Dinner (WADD) charity dinner will take place at Sydney, Australia’s Royal Randwick Race Course. A glamorous evening affair, the charity dinner will largely benefit Australia’s longest-running HIV charity, The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation with a portion of the proceeds from the live auction going to St. Vincent’s Hospital Patient Support Fund. read more »
